Akshaya Tritiya : Significance, Rituals, Celebrations, and Spiritual Importance

Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akha Teej, is one of the most sacred and auspicious days in the Hindu and Jain calendars. Celebrated on the third lunar day of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of the month of Vaishakha, Akshaya Tritiya symbolizes prosperity, abundance, eternal success, and good fortune. The word Akshaya means imperishable, eternal, and Tritiya refers to the third lunar day.

Why is Akshaya Tritiya so special?

It is believed that anything started on Akshaya Tritiya will prosper and bring unending success.

The day is considered swayam siddha muhurat — meaning no separate astrological calculation for auspicious timing (muhurat) is needed. The entire day is favorable for new beginnings.

Major life events like weddings, property purchases, gold buying, and starting new ventures are highly recommended.

Spiritually, donations (daan), fasting, chanting (japa), and acts of kindness are believed to bring immeasurable merit (Punya).
